With Rail Safety Week fast approaching here at Spence we’re getting geared up for a jam-packed week of events.
To coincide with Rail Safety Week we will be launching VOICE: the Views Of the Individual in the Construction Environment. The scheme has been adopted and further developed by Spence as part of our commitment to workforce engagement and is fundamentally a forum for sharing best practice and addressing safety issues in a collaborative manner. This is a critical aspect of our responsibility to providing a working environment which is safe and healthy for all employees and those affected by our activities. VOICE is an effective tool which secures the involvement of everyone on site by means of engaging individuals. It uses hazard observation techniques to monitor signs of unsafe behaviours, conditions, inadequate work procedures, arrangements and performance to improve the overall conditions in which we work.
During all of RSW we will be holding training sessions both in our head office and on site to our employee’s and sub-contractors. We will be introducing the concept of VOICE and its benefits and using these sessions to identify suitable VOICE representatives.
Alongside the launch of VOICE we will be introducing I.E. (improvement event) Cards. These will be replacing our existing Close Call Cards as a means of promoting a more positive attitude towards recognising both problems and solutions in the office, out on site and as a company as a whole.
Whilst our staff are available for the sessions they will also be able to attend our E-learning driver awareness course in support of our adoption of Network Rails ‘Lifesaving Rules’.
From Monday 26th September Spence aim to have company representatives on the Euston Station concourse at peak times promoting Rail Safety Week and drawing attention to rail related risks. In particular we will be highlighting the issues that have recently come to light regarding the ‘Pokemon Go’ craze by distributing leaflets.
We hope that Rail Safety Week will draw attention to rail risks and encourage a positive attitude towards recognising and rectifying unsafe behaviours.
