Overview
The project entailed a Design and Build redevelopment of the existing asbestos clad train shed into a purpose-built storage unit.
The former shed was demolished, which included the removal of foundations, with a modernised replica of the build constructed in its place.

Scope
A full list of works is outlined as follows:
- Excavation of existing ground to form foundations. This consisted of forming and pouring concrete pads, installing anchors, forming a reinforced beam and pouring concrete to form the foundation and slab.
- Installation of new surface drainage, identifying buried soakaway and cleansing to suit the new install.
- Erection of a steel frame with cranes and MEWPs, using Any Line Open (ALO) plans to monitor and manage the works.
- The erection of temporary works access scaffolding / edge protection surrounding the steel frame in preparation for the new roof and blockwork.
- Removal of defected timber wall below truss and the erection of a cavity block walk to create segregation between the old and new areas.
- Fire-proofing of the existing timber truss for a 60 min protection.
- Erection of a 3.6m internal blockwork and external low-level wall with engineering bricks to support cladding.
- Installation of Kingspan cladding to both the walls and roof.
- Installation of new submain, distribution board, lighting, internal and external sockets and spurs and test and commission.
- Installation of new electric roller shutters and doors.
- Intumescent painting of all exposed structural steels.
- Ground preparation and resurfacing with 10mm SMA to form a usable external surface for forklifts.
