Health, Safety
& Wellbeing

At Spence, the health, safety, and wellbeing of our employees are fundamental to how we operate.
Whether in our head office or out on site, we are committed to providing a safe, clean, and supportive working environment. This includes ensuring proper ventilation, temperature control, lighting, cleanliness, and accessibility. All sites are equipped with essential welfare facilities such as sanitary conveniences, drinking water, lighting, heating, drying areas, and secure storage.
We actively promote physical wellbeing through a range of initiatives. These include the Cycle to Work Scheme, encouraging active travel, and the provision of showering facilities at our offices to support healthy commuting options. We also offer regular, optional health checks to help employees stay informed and take a proactive approach to their physical health.
Mental wellbeing is equally valued at Spence. We provide mental health awareness training and conflict management resources to help foster a supportive and understanding work environment. We are committed to creating a culture where open conversations about mental health are encouraged, and stigma is reduced. Our trained Mental Health First Aiders are always available, and our managers are supported to ensure fair workload distribution and maintain open lines of communication.
Beyond this, we support overall employee wellbeing through initiatives focused on smoking cessation and raising awareness about the effects of alcohol. These efforts are part of our broader aim to encourage healthier lifestyle choices across the business. Our directors and managers play a key role in championing wellbeing. By leading with empathy and maintaining regular, honest communication with their teams, they help create a workplace where everyone feels supported, respected, and empowered to thrive both personally and professionally.
